Why this matters:
Although it’s normal for larger companies to create “annual reports” and share their earnings, money is still a taboo topic for freelancers, solopreneurs, and micro-businesses.
I share my company’s revenue publicly for 3 reasons:
- I want to show black women, women of faith, and new entrepreneurs what is possible for them.
- I want to educate entrepreneurs and service providers on what the journey looks like.
- I’m excited about our growth and what to share that excitement with my community.
I’ve gone from part-time freelancer to full-time freelance to six-figure solopreneur to a seven-figure CEO in a twelve-year timespan. This is a process. And in an industry where overnight success is often preached, I enjoy sharing the realities of growth.
The money is simply a result:
- my mindset (how I think of myself and what I believe I deserve)
- my messaging (selling + communicating the right things to the right people)
- my marketing (getting on the right platforms and showing up consistently to expand my reach.)
The money allows us to create a bigger impact by GIVING generously and HIRING as needed to give our clients the right support. Money is an important tool. The more you have, the more you have to give.
Part of my mission is to help women of faith develop a wealth mindset so they can stop subconsciously rejecting the financial abundance they deserve.

I stepped away from 1:1 and was able to get my clients ever better results in a group setting because of the curriculum and resources I provide in my programs. Impact Weekend Live and my Accelerator program are my two favorite offers that I’ve EVER created. I love having the Mastermind as a way to continue working with my clients when they complete the Accelerator..
Our voice is our most powerful asset. When we package our message into relatable content, we can make IMPACT our life’s work.
Our Reach:
Podcasts & Virtual Summits & webinar

I didn’t track the # of reach this year, but I can confidently say that I WAS EXHAUSTED FROM ALL OF THE VIRTUAL CONFERENCES (lol). Podcast interviews continue to be my favorite way to reach people through an external audience. Looking at the numbers, I may be intentional about doing at least one podcast interview per month to continue expanding my reach.

The amount of money Built To Impact generates means nothing if we’re not helping our clients see financial success as well. Our company generated a lot of money, and as a result, our top clients generated a lot of money too.
We can’t take 100% credit for the results they’ve produced, but I’m extremely honored that they’ve allowed me and my team to be part of their journey on their road to success and impact. More importantly, I’m excited that the impact I’ve had on their lives goes beyond making a dollar.
These women already came to me as experts, our job was to help them package up their expertise to reach more people at a rate they deserved. Below I am sharing their 2020 cash revenue.

I am sharing the 2020 annual revenue of 6 of my top clients who I’ve seen the most growth in (personally and professionally). Because I’ve spent years refining my audience and the right offer for them, these results are typical.
$475,000
Tiffany is the epitome of a dream client. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone implement SO QUICKLY. As we all grow to the next level, imposter syndrome tends to sneak its way into our thoughts. I want to give a huge thank you to Tiffany for being a reflection that I am making an impact. Earlier this year she received a Woman of Impact award at Impact Weekend Live, and I’m excited to see her grow year after year.
TIFFANY TOLLIVER – THE EMMAROSE AGENCY
$125,755
I can say with full confidence that Tatiana O’hara is one of the smartest people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. When she and I had our very first call on January 29, 2020 before she attended Impact Weekend, I knew there was more to her than she was currently showing the world. I discovered her unique gift when she told me that she was a store manager for a reputable grocery chain and helped build, manage, and lead teams. Now she gives agency owners and CEOs the confidence to delegate and design a healthy team structure. She earned six figures in six months, and I see her on her way to her first million.
tatiana o’hara – Team Operations Coach
$121,146
Brianca and I started working together after Impact Weekend, and shortly after she quit her job. I learned about her experience in marketing and was excited to help her transition out of the agency model to teach other entrepreneurs how to build marketing campaigns. What I’m most proud of is that she took her business to six figures while being 100% herself. I’m looking forward to watching her remain true to herself and serve other women.
brianca johnson – launch & marketing expert
$500,000+
When Jance joined my mastermind after Impact Weekend, she was already doing well at around $25,000/month. She has a large following on YouTube and was selling smaller courses for under $100 plus generating revenue from her online boutique. We built out the coaching side of her business, launched her boutique accelerator, and she’s generated over $250,000 just from coaching & teaching. I see her hitting $1.5m in 2021.
jance charate – boutique launch strategist
$118,181
Jordan has been a client of mine for two years now, and I’m honored that she’s trusted me to be her coach. At 24, she is my youngest client and I see so much of myself in her. I’m so proud of her for hitting her first six-figures before 25!
Jordan GUSTUS – Branding Designer
$47,000
THE Coach Tarsh! She’s a brand photographer and full-time employee for the government as a human design specialist… which means she knows exactly how to create experiences that cater to customers. She’s excellent at helping creatives get clear in building their creative business. She also became my very first Impact Coach and has added so much value to my company. Our clients LOVE her and I can’t imagine my programs without having more coaches like her.

Monthly Highlights
revenue, reach, and insights by the month
January 2020
—
Revenue: $31,120
Platforms:
- WERK University Fireside Chat by Koereyelle DuBose
Insight:
In January, I was about 5 weeks out from hosting Impact Weekend Live for nearly 100 women. I was fasting and exercising so I could be spiritually and physically prepared to speak on a stage for 3 days straight.
I had a meeting with my finance management team to forecast a $1 million year, but I could not fathom how they expected me to more than triple my revenue. I had a stretch goal of $800,000. They stretched me to $1,000,000.
During this time I had planned to launch a cosmetic company called Rebelious Beauty, but I decided to focus on taking Built To Impact To $1m before launching something new.
February 2020
—
Revenue: $90,724
Platforms:
- Impact Weekend LIVE by Maya Elious
Insight:
Wow. Impact Weekend was BEYOND what I could imagine. I began to see myself in a completely different light after this event. I finally started to see myself as a CEO rather than just a personal brand.
I’m so proud of what my team and I were able to accomplish. We converted 49% of the room and had a $250,000 launch.
The event created so much FOMO online that we sold 75 tickets two weeks after Impact Weekend. That was a $75,000 launch just from people seeing the reviews from our attendees.
March 2020
—
Revenue: $66,522
Platforms:
- I took a break from calls and interviews in March.
Insight:
Speaking gigs were getting scheduled left and right. I felt an immense sense of gratitude for hosting Impact Weekend Live right before everything began to shut down.
I had been donating a lot of money to creatives who were struggling with job loss or slowed down projects. My finance team and I want to start tracking through a “giving” category to see how many creatives we help monthly/annually.
I’m considering starting a non-profit in 2021 that creates scholarships for Black Creatives. This will allow me to give more and effectively categorize my giving.
April 2020
—
Revenue: $45,659
Platforms:
- Real Social Proof Conference by David Shands
Insight:
April was a bittersweet month. I started planning on how to increase my investments, build wealth, and reduce my tax liability. I’m still learning as I go.
I had finished my book earlier in the year and was thinking about how I wanted to launch it. I reached out to a NYT Bestseller to write my foreword and they agreed, but they wanted me to restructure some things in the book.
Writing a book takes just as much energy as it does to scale your company to a million. I was OVER the book and decided to focus on scaling the company. I’m still considering releasing it imperfectly.
Maybe I would’ve finished it if I could’ve traveled. 😩
May 2019
—
Revenue: $54,904
Platforms:
- The Stranded Phase Podcast with Jessica Hurley
- Icons of Online Courses with Mariah Coz
Insight:
I did about 20 sales calls and had a $70,000+ launch for the July cohort of my accelerator.
I started thinking about hiring a sales team, coaches, and community managers so I could stop doing so much work that didn’t involve directly giving my clients feedback.
I reached out to my friend Caitlin Bacher about how she runs her team for her coaching company and she recommended the book ‘Traction’ by Gino Wickman. That book really shifted how I saw the growth of my business. I made everyone in my mastermind read it.
June 2020
—
Revenue: $99,188
Platforms:
- Unspoken Terms Podcast by Casey Handy-Smith
- Think In Color Summit with Thinkific
Insight:
June was a good month. It was (or so I thought) my first $100k month. I think a return threw off the accounting.
I turned 30, bought a new car, and hired my first Impact Coach
My friend Mariah and I got on a catch-up call and I told her that I had my first $100k month but I wanted to start going evergreen and stop doing sales calls. It was PERFECT timing because she had just launched a program in February SPECIFICALLY for people who have had successful launches in the past but didn’t want to do any more sales calls. She put me in her program that same day and I executed ASAP.
My mindset was really beginning to shift.
July 2020
—
Revenue: $80,753
Platforms:
- Millionaire Mindset Podcast by Xavier Miller & Deanna Kent
- Our Time Is Now Summit by Shawn Anthony
Insight:
My new July cohort started and I was excited to help them grow their businesses. We sold 150 out of 200 Impact Weekend seats with our registrants still hopeful to meet in person despite the growing cases of COVID-19.
August 2020
—
Revenue: $98,537
Platforms:
Insight:
I don’t even remember what happened this month. Honestly, my head was just down and I was reading and working.
September 2020
—
Revenue: $133,371
Platforms:
- Share What You Know Summit by Teachable
Insight:
I completely revamped my backend systems. I worked my BUTT off. I also sent myself flowers and chocolate because I knew I’d need them. You cannot avoid the work, but you can reward yourself for doing it. 🙂 It’s also nice that the reward was $133k.
October 2020
—
Revenue: $117,793
Platforms:
- Icons of High Ticket by Mariah Coz
- Ignite Your Influence Conference by Majesty Acheampong
- Soul First Summit by Sonja Thompkins
- Built To Impact Retreat
Insight:
Held my first client retreat for Accelerator after having to push it back from June. Everyone that attended tested negative for COVID-19 within 48 hours of arriving. It felt like a reunion. It felt so nice to be around other people. Wow. I missed them. Everyone at the retreat had been working with me since Impact Weekend, and it made me realize that I loved the long-term and close-knit relationship we had built with each other. This prompted me to make my mastermind for 12 months. About 75% of the ladies re-enrolled and I’m so excited to help them level up in 2021.
November 2020
—
Revenue: $121,591
Platforms:
- Built To Impact Retreat
- Solo Retreat to Cancun Mexico
Insight:
We held our second Built To Impact retreat and I was curious to see how the ladies would bond together without having met at Impact Weekend. This was my first cohort that came strictly from online, and I was very pleasantly surprised at how supportive everyone was.
This retreat was actually more “deep” and emotional than the last one and I have a deep appreciation for how each cohort has their own personality. Every time I come together with my clients I feel more affirmed in the work that I’m doing.
December 2020
—
Revenue: $110,273*
Platforms:
- Dear Handmade Life Podcast by Nicole Stevenson
- Business Insider Interview by Jennifer Ortakales
Insight:
*The number above still needs to be calculated by my finance team. This is only the number reported from Stripe.
I’m no gonna lie, I was a little nervous that I’d end the year at $999,999 😂 Sometimes the Holy Spirit jokes around like that. 👀 I was actually at $999k for about 2 – 3 days after Christmas. But I finally crossed over. 🙂 I’m so excited, but at the same time already looking forward to hitting the $5m milestone.

Relationships
Friends, Supporters, and Advisors
I want to give a special thanks to every single person this year that was intentional about pouring into me with love, advice, support, and encouragement.
I don’t believe in being “self-made”. I believe that God places people in our lives to help us navigate from season to season.
This was really the year to have people in your corner even if you couldn’t be around them physically.
Last year I wrote a special note to each person who was a big part of my journey. This year I’m going to just list out names. If your name is on the list, you already know what you mean to me. If your name is NOT on the list, charge it to my head and not my heart. These reports are lengthy!

This list doesn’t by any means reflect the amount of people who have shown me love in 2020. I’m grateful for all the connections I’ve made, and I’m looking forward to building deeper relationships in 2021. My prayer is that I can show up for others the same way others have showed up for me.
Good riddance, 2020!
My word for 2020 was EXCELLENCE. I simply wanted to elevate the work I did and how I showed up. Six-figure expert Maya is different than Seven-figure CEO Maya. Both versions put in the work. This new version has more attention to detail, higher standards, and a lower tolerance for those who want to be around me without putting forth the necessary effort.
I’m so grateful for Impact Weekend Live revealing to me that I can live my potential. I’m not just a personal brand. I’m not just a public figure. I’m not just a popular influencer. I am the CEO of a multi-million dollar company that will help hundreds of thousands of women run six and seven-figure coaching and consulting businesses.
My advice to anyone reading this; do not settle. You can only have the best if you create space for the best. Eliminate weakness immediately.
I know that 2020 was an extremely tough year. It attacked us spiritually, mentally, and financially. But do not give up. If you can survive 2020 [a global pandemic, the biggest civil rights movement in history, an economic downfall, and the worst administration in US history], you can survive anything.
Listen, we have a black female vice president now. Brighter days are coming, lol. I’ll see you on the other side.
