Built To Impact ® is a coaching company that helps coaches, consultants and service-based entrepreneurs master their message, package their expertise, and build a six-figure business.
Our mission is to help our clients begin their wealth-building journey by teaching them how to launch, grow, and scale their own training programs and high-end services to six figures and beyond.
We host a fun, high-touch annual event called Impact Weekend Live and our signature program, Built To Impact Accelerator, is where we work with our clients closely for 12 weeks to help them launch their high-end service and generate a minimum of $10,000/month consistently.

Why it matters
Many people say that they don’t start businesses to make money. But whether or not you’re “in it for the money”, money matters. You can not run a successful business without making and having money.
Even if your primary focus is helping people, money is a result of the amount of people you’ve helped.
The more people you help, the more money you make. The more money you make, the more people you’ve helped.
I share my company’s revenue publicly for 3 reasons:
- We want to show black women, women of faith, and new entrepreneurs what is possible for them.
- We want to educate entrepreneurs and service providers on the journey.
- We want to be transparent about how we run our company, make money, and help others become successful.

We had a major shift in our revenue this year by removing a $20,000 offer and “replacing” it with a $5,000 offer. That’s a 75% price difference, and as result, we made ~50% less than we made in 2021.

Unpacking The Data

Our Five-Figure Launch Accelerator Program is designed to teach coaches and service providers to create and launch an offer that will make them $10,000+ in 12 weeks. We were able to do that with 64% of our clients.
Our Activate Your Expert Brand program is designed to teach experts how to gain visibility online and land their first client. This is not a launch program, but it was nice to see 7 of our clients launch in a short time and have an average five-figure launch of $13,304. Next year, we will track how many clients from this program landed their first client (many of them did).
Although we cannot make guarantees since there are many factors out of our control, we do strive for at least 50% of our clients to get an ROI in our programs within 12 months. For those who commit to doing the work, the ROI is practically inevitable.

Overall, this year we had 78 graduate clients in good standing, meaning they paid their agreed balance and completed the program. Last year we had over 100 clients + higher-paying programs. This altered our revenue as mentioned in the “Top Income Generators” section.
Delinquent clients are clients who paid a deposit and signed a contract agreeing to pay their balance, but then defaulted on their payments, disputed a charge, or requested a refund.
We often see the perspective of clients when they have a “negative” experience with coaching programs, but we don’t often get to see a perspective from coaches who have negative experiences with clients. There’s more grace for the people who are “paying” monetarily, and less grace for the people who’ve invested their time, education, experience, and emotional bandwith into their work.
From our experience, people back out of their contracts for many reasons:
- They never had the money in the first place.
- They ran into financial troubles.
- They were dissatisfied with the program.
We find that dissatisfaction is usually the last factor (but usually the most publicized reason and easiest excuse). Often clients, delinquent clients simply do not have or prioritize the financial means to honor their contract.
As a company, this is not something to take personally, but rather to factor into your financial expectations. As your company grows, take attrition into account. I added this part to the review because there’s not often a voice encouraging coaches who experience unfavorable client experiences, chargebacks, etc. If you have gone through this, IT IS THE GAME. Especially as you scale. I wish someone would’ve openly explained this to me during my second 7-figure year so it would’ve have felt like a blow to the chest. Find ways to refine your process and keep improving. But don’t allow these minor experiences to define you. Consider your success rate.
We “lost” about $130,000 in revenue this year because of delinquent clients. That’s pocket change compared to what we lost last year 😂 . But we still gained incredible clients, made an impact, and made way more than what we lost. That’s what matters.

Final Thoughts
I am in year 3 of being a 7-figure CEO, and I can say with FULL CONFIDENCE that I am more new to this than I am true to this. 😂
As I continue to scale my company, I’m blown away by how much more things got done when my team was me and 1-2 other people.
When I had my first 7-figure year ($1.2m) with one team member in 2020, I anticipated going to $5m with five team members. 😂
unfortunately that’s not how the math works.
We did a little over $2m instead.
More “support” didn’t necessarily lead to more money.
In my case, it primarily lead to more time.
I mastered how to hire to create more TIME but not more money.
But in the middle of the year, I ended up creating SO much free time for myself that I got bored.
I started my business because I ENJOY what I do…
And I realized that I removed too many parts of myself from my business too soon.
I won’t go into the reasons I started to disconnect (#clienttrauma), but being too far “out” of the business affected my revenue and joy.
As a CEO, I found myself at a crossroads…
➡️ Relinquish control to be a *real* CEO
➡️ Stay (or get back) “in” the business.
At my team retreat last year, I asked one of my full-time employees
“Where do you believe I should be relinquishing more control?”
(Most employees don’t want to be micromanaged and want their managers or CEOs to back off).
To my surprise she responded “I actually think you need to take back more control.”
😳
Holy 💩.
I realized something.
In my desire to not “micro manage”, I was also not leading.
Managing and leading are two different things and I was doing an amateur job at both.
I say all this to say…
There’s so much talk about working ON your business when you’re scaling, but not enough emphasis on how to know if/when you need to get back IN.
I believe there’s a shift that’s happening in business and we’re going to start seeing a lot of things…
⚠️ The entrepreneurs who were avoiding sales calls will now be doing sales calls.
⚠️ The entrepreneurs who were avoiding 1:1 coaching will now be doing 1:1 coaching.
⚠️ The entrepreneurs who were avoiding done-for-you services will now be doing done-for-you services.
⚠️ The entrepreneurs who didn’t want to go get a job will now be going to get a job.
If you’re fortunate enough to hire people who can SAVE you TIME, do not WASTE that extra time. LEVERAGE it. That’s where I missed the mark.
Many of us will need to go back to the basics because
>> Business is changing and we need to be IN in to see how to WIN it.
>> Industries are getting more saturated and entrepreneurs don’t have the luxury of being disconnected from their buyers.
This has me feeling excited, nervous, and relieved at the same time.
Excited because the basics are actually really fun. It’s more profitable and less dramatic.
Nervous because I want to move with wisdom as I navigate this new, but familiar, season.
And relieved because something about simplifying business just feels so damn good.
I hope this message allowed someone to exhale, drop their shoulders, and gain the confidence to get back in the game. And back to business.
Oh, and lastly… the lesson I have to continuously remind myself of is that it’s better to embrace and prepare for the inevitable rather than continuously try to avoid it. That’s why this neverending desire for ease will fail many of us… because we are actually running away from stress more than we’re chasing ease. Growing pains are inevitable.
